Privacy & the Kalam Code
In short
- Only Quaid-i-Azam University students can join, with their university email.
- We keep only what the app needs. We never sell your data or show ads.
- The live photo is optional. It only adds a Verified ✓ mark to your name.
- Admins can read chats and posts to check reports and keep people safe.
- You can delete your account yourself, any time, in My profile.
Who runs QAU Kalam
QAU Kalam is a student project run by Kamran Ashraf, a QAU student. It is not an official Quaid-i-Azam University service. For any question about your data, use Help → Report a problem in the app; it goes straight to the admin.
What we keep
- Account: your university email, name, department and level. A personal email only if you add one.
- Password: stored only in scrambled form (a "hash"). Nobody, not even the admin, can read it.
- What you share: posts, comments, chats, files and anything you add to your profile (skills, interests, bio, home district).
- Pictures (optional): a picture you choose from your gallery, and the live photo if you take the live check.
- Safety and technical records: when you logged in and from which internet address, error reports, reports you make, and messages that were stopped for breaking the Kalam Code.
The live photo (optional)
Joining needs only your university email. If you want the Verified ✓ mark, the app asks for a 10-second live check: the face check runs on your own phone, the server checks the few frames it sends and then throws them away, and only the final photo is kept.
Other students see your gallery picture, or your initials if you have none. They see a photo only if you turn on Show my photo. Your live photo stays with the admins, to confirm who is who if there is ever a problem.
An admin can ask one particular account for a new live photo, for example after a report of a fake account. That account can't use the app until it's done.
Who can see what
- Other students: your name, department, level, badge, posts and comments, and your photo if you chose to show it. Only the person you chat with sees your chats.
- Admins: everything above, plus chats, reports, your emails and login history, to handle reports and keep the app safe. Every admin action is written in an audit log.
- Nobody else. Your data isn't sold, shared with advertisers or given to anyone, unless the law requires it.
Where it's kept and how it's protected
The app runs on the owner's computer in Pakistan and is reached through a secure (HTTPS) link. Messages, files and photos are encrypted in the database. The checks for 18+ content run on that same computer. Your email address is passed to an email service only to send you codes.
A small student project can't promise the protection of a large company, so please don't share anything very private here, such as CNIC numbers, bank details or passwords.
How long things stay
- Chats leave your screen after 24 hours unless you star them. A copy stays for admins so reports can still be checked.
- Something removed by an admin disappears for students but stays for admins, as a record.
- Your account stays until you delete it.
Deleting your account
Go to My profile → Delete my account and type your password. At once:
- your photos, profile details, personal email and logins are erased;
- your posts, comments, events and chats disappear from the app for everyone;
- your university email is freed, so you can join again later as a new account.
What stays, for safety: a copy of what you posted and sent, visible only to admins (so earlier reports can still be checked), and one line in the admin log saying who deleted their account and when. To have that erased too, ask through Help → Report a problem before you delete.
An account that was removed for breaking the rules can't be deleted this way; its email stays banned until the owner lifts the ban.
The Kalam Code
What every QAU Kalam member agrees to. It keeps this a place everyone enjoys.
- Be kind and respectful. No insults, threats, mocking or bullying, in any language.
- Keep it clean. Nothing 18+ or shameful: no such words, photos, videos or files.
- Respect privacy. Don't ask for numbers or private meetups, and don't share anyone's photos or chats without asking.
- Be yourself. One real account, your real name, and only your own photo.
- Lift each other up. Share notes, answer questions, welcome juniors.
- Bothered by someone? Block or report them. Blocking is instant, and the admin reads every report.
Breaking the Code can pause or close an account. Messages that break it are stopped before anyone sees them.
